Denial

What are we denying that we need to acknowledge we can do something about? Janet Taylor, MD, MPH

As I stated in my post last week, I will be sharing powerful quotes from speakers at my 2025 Living My Truth Luncheon in Martha's Vineyard. This quote can take on different meanings to readers. The quote is powerful enough to prompt reflection and challenge your thinking. For me, the hardest changes are often those that are within my control. It is easy to find reasons why we can not do something, can't change something, or even convince ourselves that we are powerless. In reality, many of the matters we struggle with are those we can actually do something about to make the change. However, it requires admission, accountability, and courage.

We must stop giving others the power over our lives. Yes, what we desire can and will be difficult, but nothing will change until we stop feeling helpless and start acknowledging that we can take action to improve our circumstances. I am not saying you can and should do it alone. But we must stop denying the role we play in bringing about a change to our circumstances. For example, if you are struggling to find a more fulfilling career, waiting for others to rescue you is not a viable option. If you need to change a limited mindset, blaming others for making you feel this way is not a plan. The power rests within you to do something about it.

Stop denying what you can do. You have the power to change your circumstances.
