Today, my post focuses on a few quotes from Taraji P. Henson's recent address at Spelman College. I love this time of year because listening to commencement speeches is very inspiring. Taraji's stood out for me for the balance of strength, vulnerability, and honesty, in other words... life. This year, it was interesting to watch many of the speakers wrestle with the direction of their speech.

We often struggle with issues that stem from self-management. It is incredibly challenging to manage our emotions, our self-perception, and to avoid comparison. Any one of these can derail us from focusing on our purpose and goals.

We often wait to feel confident, fearless, have a perfect plan, and be ready before taking action. However, big moves in life cannot wait for these feelings because they may never come. We must just do it.

Don't look to the side to focus on what others are doing; focus on your future. What GOD has for you is for you; concentrating on others will only distract you from your goals. Measuring your "success" against others is useless because it is usually not based on knowledge of one's journey.
